Full bio
Pernille Rosendahl has been one of Scandinavia’s most prominent artists since the early 1990s, first as a backing vocalist with Savage Rose, then as frontwoman of Swan Lee and The Storm, and since 2016 as a solo artist on her own label Dark Bird Inc.
In 1995 she turned down multiple international major label offers to remain independent. Swan Lee followed, releasing three albums on their own label GoGo Records, winning a wide range of awards and touring extensively both in Denmark and internationally, including opening for acts such as Coldplay and Suede. Their story was documented in the award-winning film “Stjernekigger”.
Her solo album Dark Bird, mixed by Jeff Ellis (Frank Ocean), together with The Hurt, established her as a writer and producer of rare precision. She holds full rights to the Dark Bird album catalogue, alongside a significant body of high-quality unreleased recordings ready for film and sync placement.
She is a highly active songwriter and performer, and has composed music for feature films, documentaries and animation, and has worked extensively in television, including three seasons as a judge on X Factor Denmark. She has toured churches, museums and theatres across Denmark, consistently breaking the conventional concert format to create something closer to a shared experience than a show.
For more than three decades, she has worked as a political lobbyist and activist for better conditions in the music industry, with a focus on copyright, women’s rights and diversity.
In 2025, she published the memoir Little Fighter, which received significant attention and led to her being awarded the Vallø Prize in 2026 for her work to improve conditions for artists in the Danish music scene and for being a role model for a new generation of musicians.
A true embodiment of the DIY ethos, she found her own way through the industry. Now she is showing others how, while continuing to change the game on her own terms.
